What’s on ….The Christmas Market in Dublin

Christmas in Gaelic is ‘Nollaig‘ and Merry Christmas is ‘Nollaig Shona Dhuit‘. And in Dublin you will spend a real Nollaig Shona!

4At Christmas time, the streets are decorated with coloured lights and the whole city is adorned in a magical way. Christmas is in the air, you can find it everywhere, from the looks on people’s faces, to the Christmas Trees and Christmas lights to the traditional songs played on the streets. And there are also many surprises: musicians such as Glen Hansard, Sinead O’Connor, Damien Rice and Bono usually busk in Grafton Street on Christmas Eve. Dublin city centre is always a wonderful place at Christmas and a great variety of events will take place in the weeks running up to the festivities. The main shopping streets such as Grafton street and Henry street are lit up and big Christmas trees appear everywhere in town.

And something1 magical is going to happen in the Dublin Docklands area. Here, among Google’s European headquarters, trendy restaurants and bars, a true Christmas festival will take place. In the awesome setting of Custom House, which includes George’s Dock, the CHQ building and the surrounding area, there will be a huge Christmas market. The market is made up of more than 50 Christmas chalets where you will Ireland’s finest crafts and artisans presenting their artwork. There will also be shops that offering local delicacies, drinks, and traditional Irish gifts. The atmosphere is truly festive with Christmas trees, fairy lights, carol singing, traditional Victorian fairground rides, mulled wine and festive food to suit all tastes. The market will take place every day from 12 am to 10 pm, from the 26th of November until the 23rd of December.
